Why I don’t “bake” hard boiled eggs!

How to make better hard boiled eggs!

We all want to know how to do things better I think. This might account partially for why Pinterest is so successful. Not everything on the site though is correct or tells the whole story. I wanted to share why I don’t “bake” hard boiled eggs like the pin below.

Baked_egg      So the theory is that baking eggs is better than boiling them. I don’t agree. Why? Let me show you. The photo on the right is of a baked egg. The shells get brown where they are touching the metal and while that color sometimes fades with washing the egg on the outside, the inside discoloration does not. It also isn’t a great flavor either. Granted the egg shell does come off easy but so do those eggs boiled with a bit of baking soda in them!

So lets not reinvent the wheel here! I call this a Pinterest Fail! Not of course a fail on the part of pinterest but on an idea posted there over and over. Maybe some can over look the dark yucky spots on their eggs but not me! Bring on the boiled water!

How to boil a Beautiful Egg!

  1. Place eggs at the bottom of a high sided pan.  (Do not stack)
  2. Cover with cool water about an inch above eggs.
  3. Add a teaspoon of baking soda to make for easy shell removal after boiling.
  4. Bring water to a boil and let cook for 2 minutes.
  5. Remove pan from heat and cover. Let sit for 12-15 minutes covered or give an ice bath!
  6. Remove eggs with a  slotted spoon and cool.
