What to get Geek Dad for his Birthday

I have impossible to shop for men in my life! Do you too? This past week was my husbands 35th birthday and I got him ONE gift. Why just one? Because I used all the other ideas on Fathers day already and was fresh out. I should have bugged him more and done more research on this before hand. Now though with my children on vacation with grand parents I have time!

So lets start with me rambling about what I did get my husband. I found him this cool runners watch that has more specs and such than I will ever understand. What caught my eye about it was that it maps where he has been, how far, and where he tends to lag. This is important as he is in the military and runs on his own more often than not these days and likes ways to hold himself accountable. Being the wonder daddy that is also is, he tends to run pushing a jogging stroller and needs to know how much it slows him down and much better he does on the days he does not run with it. It was not cheap for this geekery tool and thankfully he loves it.
I got lucky!

What to get Geek Dad for his Birthday!

Having come up with just one thing I begging him to make me a list. This started my research and I will include a few of those things here as well! Like any good Geek wife, I am pulling from his pinterest boards!
Picture Missing! Oh No!
My husband already has this! It is a fantastic gaming chair! If your Dad is a geek, find one! This one has speakers in it and wirelessly connects to the TV and reclines and I am sure it does more but alas, it is his and not mine so I try not take it over too over (ya right!) If your Dad is not a geek, a new recliner is still a great idea! I am thinking about getting one for my father for his birthday but I am not yet sure if he is ready to give up his own dinosaur of a recliner that has seen better days. Even though my Father is not a geek, he has a TV any geek would be proud of and sadly the chair he love just does not do the TV experience justice!
Another great idea I have for my Fathers birthday that might help you is a fishing trip! Not just any fishing trip but a chartered one out on the ocean where he does not even have to bring anything with him and should bring some massive fish home! This trip is costly, more so than the watch I got my husband but it is worth saving for I think. Maybe send your Father fishing? If you can’t send him on a trip how about give him what I gave my own father for fathers day, along with a gift I gave him a gift card to his favorite sporting shop so he could get more fishing equipment! There is geekery in fishing believe it or not but I sadly do not know enough about it to buy for the guys in my life.

I had mentioned my Fathers Dinosaur recliner and so this brings me to my husband Dinosaur T-Shirt! It is a shirt depicting one of my all time favorite scenes in one of my all time favorite movies, Serenity. I know, letting my geek colors fly now. Point being, special T-Shirts with what your Dad loves on them can be a great gift and not too costly either! Have any of these ideas helped you come up with something for your Dads Birthday yet?
Gifts For Him can be hard, no doubt. If your not a geek, buying for a geek, you might want to message a geek blogging Mommy like myself for help. Or you can go to a site like this that has Birthday Present Ideas and guess. You really can not go wrong.
It is the little things in life that makes life so much fun. Look at this guy, his name is key Pete and he is magnetic. I want him! I know my husband does too! He will be gift for Dad for sure from one of the kids for the coming holidays or as a “just because” gift to let him know we love it when he comes home and hangs his keys up and is suddenly all ours to play with and fight over!
If you can’t find something big that you want to get dad, make him a birthday basket! So many of the hot geekery items are not huge, thus making them all the more perfect. Put them in some kind of container and add a bow made from recycled pages from a book he loved that met and unfortunate end. (If he is a Dad with small kids there HAS to be one around some place!) Suddenly those great little gifts add up to a birthday he will not soon forget and his friends will all envy as you know he will tweet and facebook them too!
I hope this little ramble has helped you find a gift for your Dad. If not, please do contact this geek Mom and I am happy to help!
