Our adorable ducklings are now much bigger! I think we can even guess at their breed! They look like runner ducks. See how this one stands right up! They are very adorable!

They have gotten so big it is time they live outside and not in the brooder in the garage any more. Most days are in the high 80’s and low 90’s now even. I designed and my hubby built this little duck run for the 4 of them. It will only be for at night to keep them protected from predators. We are putting up a movable fence to travel around the 2 acres and feel more like free ranging during the day. We used to let the chickens free range without any fencing but sadly a week ago the coop door was left open over night and now 3 of 6 very loved chickens are gone. I found a pile of feathers in the yard, I think something got them. But three in one single night seems like a lot. Without a lot of mess it is doubtful a dog. Maybe the huge eagles carried them away? Possibly a fox, or a raccoon family. One thing is for sure, our feathered friends need protection! Hopefully this will work as we wanted something light enough to move around the yard with the movable fencing. This will vary their diet and keep the lawn alive and fertilized too. Wish us luck!

Bummer on the lost chickens. But your ducks are getting so big. 🙂

It really is hard on the heart. A friend says after a few dozen chickens and losing them to various things you stop naming them. I hope we never get to that point as the kids really love them!
