Not about those wildlings, but these wildlings!

Out two twin Joeys found a fantastic home yesterday, after a long search. Smart adults who have an interest in research and giving them the best care. They couple mentioned a vet on you tube they have been watching and I thought to look him up today while laying in bed with a fever while the wonder husband took the bigger wildlings to the store. I found a few interesting things and some things I need to look up again more deeply, as we did when we got our little wildling fluff balls. I followed a few links and ended up on a site reading what I can only describe as a high school girl break down fit over all sites not their own for glider care it seems. I tried every contact us address on the site to send the following in, ALL of them bounce back as undeliverable. www.mynasga.org Isn’t that odd? So here is rant:

I am writing to say how disturbed I am by your site and it’s lack of facts.

First, I found your site through asgv.org and I found them through the new owners of two Joeys we sold to them. We are not breeders and we did not do anything illegal selling the babies to our single pair of pet gliders that we have had for 2 years. We spent a lot of time trying to find them the best home and screened out people who wanted us to ship them fedex and others who thought cat food would be ok to feed. We had finally found a great family who answered our questions in a way that showed they had done research and it should be a great fit. We met after a long drive half way between us, they held the 12 week old joeys, loved them and mentioned the above site. I thought I would check it out. I was floored that the site seemed to be pushing pellet foods and the only science to back them up was their word as Vets. They also seemed to be attacking any other diet, all web forums on gliders, and any pet owners who have a breeding pair, as if we are breeding dogs that have an over population issue rather than rare animals that are not over populated. I followed links to your site and was shocked at what seems to be a high school girls cat fight, your site attacking all forums and again promoting a diet with no scientific studies to share to back it up and at the same time attacking the “out of date” diets by calling them old and hard to follow and just about saying they will kill gliders when some of them have been used in zoos for years and have good reputations. Yes, they can take some time to make, yes they are can be costly, but these animals are costly, they are exotic, and they do need special care. No place am I seeing a study showing these “Out dated” diets are harmful when followed correctly. As a pet owner I feel like this is a childish fight, specially all the cut and pasted things for message board. I do not go to them often but I would no sooner stay there if they childishly and with no facts attacked your site or any other. What I can tell you as a well educated adult is that from what I can read, the pellet diets are full of grains, NOT something any sugar glider would come across in the wild never mind highly processed things like flour and gliders have not evolved to eat such things and I would like to see facts saying other wise.

Your site doesn’t have a forum does it? The other site does not either. That is shady to me, as if you and they do not want owners to be able to talk about these things with one another and think for ourselves.

One last thing, I followed your link to Wiki on sugar gliders and that site still says not give pellets. I have this bad feeling that like formula companies your site and the other are being backed by those selling these pellet foods. They may be easy but the easy thing is not often the right thing.

Regretfully,
Kimberly

Now back to your very long wait for another blog post about my older wonderful wildlings.
