NaBloPoMo Prompt Day 5

What are your thoughts about tomorrow’s election in the United States?

Frankly I am scared. I know this might sound a bit odd to actually be fearful but as a military wife I spent some of the Bush years fearful for my husband’s life because he was sent into war on the back of lies that made many people a lot of money with war contracts and such. I saw my beloved country in a new way, one that I never dreamed in my youth I would see, a country run by greed. Money being more important than lives.

I have to say I trust President Obama not to send my husband to war to profit himself or his buddies.

The idea of having Romney in office… that is so scary to me. If you know me, you know I am not one to put religion over logic but I have to say that I think Romney is the poster child of evil and I can’t understand why any American would vote for him.   I am not sure you can get any more un-American. He out-sourced American jobs and would help others do the same. He wants to leave the old, sick, and helpless without care or support. He would privatize disaster services basically leaving the poor with nothing. It has been reported he used his church to avoid paying taxes for years and years and that is why he refuses to release his tax records. He wants to de-regulate things believing that Money is more important than the health of our children. He doesn’t want to support education meaning only the rich will be educated and gap between the 1 percent and the 99% will grow even larger and the problems in our country will get larger as well because of it. Polls around the world do not want this man in Power, I am not the only one that is scared. He seems to think he is Gods gift and that all should bend to his will, including Iran, and they simply will not. While he wants to deregulate business, he wants to regulate my body as a female. He does not care if I make less than a man in the work force, and if I loved a women he would make it as hard as he possible could for me to live happy and like a normal American.

My list could go on and on. In short though, I think he will rain war and destruction on our country. Obama might not have been the best President for Democrats  he clearly tried hard to please both sides and the republicans burned him for it time and again. I think though this time if given a change he would fight harder to take care of those people who need to be taken care of because it is the HUMAN thing to do. Not because god told him to, but because taking care of people is the RIGHT thing to do.

I am not on welfare, never have been. I am however a military wife with a husband who is willing to die for our country and to keep us all safe. I give up a lot so he can do this. I really hope we can keep Obama in the white house and keep out someone I think has horrible morals and is not trust worthy with this country, money, or my husband’s life.

Like most people who are not Americans, I’m really hoping Obama wins. Because having foreign policy decisions placed in the hands of Romney? Makes the rest of the globe uneasy.

(Followed you from twitter via your nablopomo hashtag. Good luck!)

Kimmy, I agree with your reasons for being afraid of Romney. I’m afraid of Obama too. He too is gearing up for war with Iran. England just told us no when we asked to use their bases for staging grounds for that purpose. Also, Obama signed NDAA 2012 along with its indefinite detention provisions and has had the Justice department aggressively defend it in court in a lawsuit brought by a group of well respected investigative journalists. He also signed HR 347 which allows people to be arrested and charged with a felony while engaged in otherwise legal protest if they are in a special security zone, whether they know of the know of the changed status of the location or not. Obama is also pro-austerity. He’s openly talked about reducing Social Security and Medicare. As far as Wall St. goes, he’s on record as having told a group of CEOs of the worst offenders that he’s on their side and is all that is standing between them and the pitchforks. And despite having an organic garden for the White House, he supports GMO manufactures like Monsanto, appointing former executives high level positions in the USDA. If those aren’t reasons to be afraid, I don’t know what is. Really, the choice between Romney and Obama is a choice of how fast you want complete economic collapse to happen. And that was out of the mouth of an Obama canvaser that came to our door last week after learning that I am up on the issues and couldn’t be snowed with the same old partisan dog whistles. I don’t know if it will really matter anyway since I’ve heard plots of violence on both sides if their candidate doesn’t win that would make all of this moot with the following crackdown that would result.

Aradia, valid points! I think though because of the draw down and the military mind Obama has shown that he has no interest in war with Iran, though the military does want to cover it’s bases and not drop the ball. Obama is more about sanctions than anything though. As a military wife, and with my husband job in military intel, we really do feel safe with Obama on this one. As for NDAA and HR 347, when Bush signed into law such things I admit I freaked and couldn’t understand why others didn’t. It was huge, now though I think it just seems “old hat” and maybe that is part of the issue as well. I think with his talking about social Security and Medicare that he was trying to walk the line, he did too much of that. I think he tried to play nice with republicans and got burned enough times that he will go back to his party and fully support those things now. I think if nothing else, his health care reform is showing that he does want to make sure the basics for people are covered. As for Monsanto and GMO, that is a book for another day sadly. It is a mess and that is scary but it is not something any one person can clean up as too many people are not even aware of the issue. I have to say though with Romneys love of deregulation, it would only get that much worse under him. I know a lot of people are looking at this as lesser of evils and for a while I did too but after so much research I just Obama as a good man doing his best and like most of us, learning as he does it. I don’t think he has a personal greedy agenda, I can’t say the same though for Romney.

Thank you for sharing your perspective as a military wife. I encouraged people during this campaign to research and gather knowledge for yourself. So many just follow the news and watched the debates. I’m just praying that all will be well no matter who’s elected. Personally, I don’t trust Romney. His stories have changed too much and watching how he disrespects the office of the United States President. How will he represent us to other countries?
