While Nevada may be best known mainly for Las Vegas, there is so much more for tourists to see and experience in this state. In fact, Nevada is home to three hugely popular automotive museums. Each of these delivers a one-of-a-kind experience that individuals won’t be able to get enough of. Check out these three automotive museums below:
- Don Laughlin’s Classic Car Collection
Don Laughlin’s Classic Car Collection is a must-see for anyone visiting Nevada. That’s because this is an exhibition located in Laughlin that is free of charge. There, antique, classic and special interest cars are put on display.
The museum is made up into two different areas, which are each housed right at the Riverside Resort Hotel & Casino. Besides these types of automobiles, there are also various trucks and motorcycles on display for guests to see. In the first of the two halls, there is a rotating selection which feature horseless carriages, vehicles that were used in films and a motorcycle that belonged to actor Steve McQueen. This hall is found right next to the main valet entrance of the hotel and casino.
Then, there is the main Classic Auto Exhibition Hall which is found right on the third floor of the south tower. In this section, guests can take a look at vehicles that are privately owned but up for sale now on consignment.
- National Automobile Museum
Located just south of the Truckee River in Reno is the National Automobile Museum. At this particular museum, guests will get a view of historic automobiles that date back to the late 19th century to all the way throughout the 20th. The vast majority of these specific vehicles were owned by the late casino owner William F. Harrah. That’s why the National Automobile Museum is often referred to as The Harrah Collection.
Within this automotive museum, there are over 200 cars on display throughout four separate galleries. The first gallery focuses mainly on cars that were built during the 1890s and 1900s whereas the second gallery showcases cars crafted between the 1910s and 1930s. Then, there is the third gallery which features cars that were designed anywhere from the 1930s to the 1950s. Lastly, there is the fourth gallery which houses cars made from 1950 to nowadays. Within this fourth gallery, there is also race cars that guests can take a look at as well as the Off-road Motorsports Hall of Fame.
Guests are told to look at each of these galleries as one whole as the galleries are all linked to one another by a themed street. There are even faux shop fronts located throughout the various galleries to further this image.
- Shelby Museum
The third automotive museum in Nevada that guests have to check out is the Shelby Museum. This particular one is located right near the popular Las Vegas Speedway so it’s quite visible in Nevada. Unlike other automotive museums around the country, though, this one is free. There, guests can feast their eyes on plenty of beautiful cars. For those that don’t know, this museum got its name thanks to Carroll Shelby International, Inc. In fact, Shelby American, which is a division of this company, is the first performance car company in all of America.
Today, the museum itself is always changing and featuring new vehicles although it always houses some of the most famous cars ever created like the first Cobra CSX2000, Shelby GT-H, Terlingua and GT500KR.
