Anne Herman still Inspires

Anne Herman
Born: 1933. Died: November 22, 2007

I miss her.

I have never met anyone like her. She never asked anyone to do what she herself was not willing to. She traveled the world looking to help people. She was a peace activist. She was arrested for her civil disobedience and never regretted it. She inspired so many people and 4 years later she still does.

I see the Occupy Movement and I can’t help but think that she would be at the heart of it, leading the way. Her long silver braids, her strong voice, her kind heart would be so welcome in the mess that our country is in.

I will not forget her, not her parenting advice, not her peace advice, not her relationship advice. She was a peace activist that protested wars, military enlistment offices, and the white house. However she took the time to be a great friend to a few of us military wives. She didn’t think we or our husbands where horrible, did not ask them to leave the service, and wanted them to help change it. You think it would all conflict, but for her it didn’t seem to. I miss her hugging me while I struggled with it. She reminded me I had to raise my family and then I would have time to do what she did, help to change the rest of the world but my job was my children and supporting my husband, my friends. Someday I will have silver braids like hers, someday I will follow in her foot steps. I will never forget her. I may forget many things, but not her.
