What a surprise!
I just turned 35 and our “baby” is now 4.5 and we have 4 children of our own and 2 amazing surrogate daughters too! We had thought our family complete. Oh goodness… what a shock this was! With my health we didn’t even think this was possible. As a friend pointed out, life finds a way, as another friend said, we plan and the gods laugh.
So our not so little family will be a little bigger come next summer! We are excited and I admit it, a bit scared too!
This baby will not be born at home, in the kitchen, in water, with midwives sadly. My health will not allow this sadly. Having a “crunchy” birth in a hospital will certainly be interesting and I am open to advice!
Of course we gave all our baby things away….
So starting from scratch! Time to drag out the sewing machine and start knitting! So many cloth diapers to make! So much to plan for!
Husband is very happy, I think he went through less shock than I did. Our teen was happy and yet say, she goes off to collage in 4 years and said she will be sad to leave another little sibling. We reminded her she could stay home and go to a local college! Our son really wants a brother as he is the only boy. He is happy about this, very much so. Our second daughter wants a brother too. Our youngest just keeps reminding us that she is the baby!
The Grand Parents are supportive, as are the Aunts too! This is great as so many people have unkind things to say about large families. It sure will not be easy with tuition for the oldest and homeschooling and all on my husbands military income but it will work out, it always does!

What a wonderful surprise! It’s a bummer that you don’t have baby things left, but I’m sure you’ll be totally ready by the time you need to be.

Awww congratulations! I’m sure it’s going to be love at first sight for everyone in the family when baby arrives!
That is a great surprise. All babies are a blessing. My sister is 38 and just found out she is expecting. Her baby is also 4. Now I can be excited for both of you.
