Want to join the proud ranks of those that save the world by cloth diapering?

But you are not sure where to start or what to buy?

First, congrats on making such a wonderful choice! And second, your doing just what you should be doing by looking things up!

Know that this is just my opinion and I am as fallible as anyone else. BUT I do love cloth diapering my baby so I am happy to share what I love.

What Kind to buy:

From what I understand there is a growing number of people pulling away from the micro fleece diapers in part because that fabric is synthetic? And they do not want it touching their babies skin directly. Not sure the details though.

I can say I am No fan of pockets and on a while either is my husband. You have to stuff it, and then you have to remember to pull the wet stuff out of it before taking care of it. Sometimes with a trying to roll around little baby you have little time enough to simply drop the diaper so you can help naked baby. Never mind the ewww factor of dealing with the stuffings… :-/

I like AIOs All-In-Ones. I find they hold up great! The big issue with them though is that they can take longer to dry. I do not find it to be all that long, not longer then a load of jeans though so I am happy with it. The AIOs I like though have PUL, thats the outside layer that keeps the rest of the world from getting baby pee on it! LOL This stuff does not breath! Thats and issue. Most all pockets are also PUL by the way.

Soooooo AIO is only a part of our diapering world. The other part are fitteds and prefolds. In short they are a simple diaper with NO PUL, so they would leak by them selves. You put them on and add a cover over them. There are so many kinds of covers but seeing as I am looking for something breathable for baby butt after using a AIO with PUL that does not breath, WOOL is the best option. It is sooooo soft AND an added bonus is that with Longies (Wool pants) you can just a put a top on and call it good without having to find baby bottoms to go over a diaper! In the summer you can get wool shorties and do the same thing. Or you can even just get a wool soaker, they are the same shape as the diapers. I LOVE WOOL. It does not breed bacteria like other fabrics, it is natural, if you care for it right it can be the most leak proof of any diapering system I have found. I love caring for wool. Some people consider it a down side to have to hand wash it, but as it does not hold smells and you only have to wash it from time to time or when it gets soiled…. I find that a big plus.

So baby wears it.
Pees,
You change her and hang the longies up and grab another pair.
Same thing happens,
You hang those up and grab another pair.
Same thing happens.
You grab the ones you used in the morning that you where hanging up, they should be aired out and not damp at all and ready to go. (the inside of the longies can get to be a little damp but thats not a biggie, they keep the out side dry!)

Anyway, I could go on and on.

I find wool worth my time. Sticking my hand in an almost all man made thing that feel funny on the inside to get the soaker and pull it out dripping wet is not my idea of fun. Not to mention the loved Wool covers are very environmentally friendly, the micro fleece and PUL are just not. (More so then disposables though!)

So many things to consider, and no matter what everyone else loves, you will find what it is that works best for your family and chances are it will be at least a little different then everyone else’s best loved diapers as each baby is different even.

Blessings,
Kimmy
