Homeschoolers do not stay at home!

Some where some people got to thinking that homeschoolers sit in room in front of a board nice and quiet in their cloths all matching like the drapes doing what ever they are told all day long. They think these children are kept out of the world by over protective parents trying to brain wash them into certain faiths, cults evem. I am not saying I have ever met any of these, who could I? They keep their kids home right? LOL But I am saying I think it is not as common as some think. But just because I have not seen it does not mean it is not so.

I speak from experience though, many of us homeschoolers like to get out! Out in the sun and rain and world to explore and live. Our children are not kept from the world behind doors and stuck at desks every day, they are out living it. My 8 year old knows better then my husband what is on the shopping list and how many grams of suger I will allow in certian foods, she goes to look before asking for something. LOL She knows how to care for small children as she is a very helpful big sister and wants badly to help with the new baby. She can get around a library better then most adults. What she is very wonderful at though…. is play. That I think is what one of her biggest jobs are. Not on the computer, not in front of a tv, but wild imaginitive play. This is made all the more wonderful with other children as she has a kind heart and we hope to grow morals bright and strong in all our children. I am sure you do to!

While my family has been on vacation after our Hero got back from Iraq, we did many things. The biggest was staying home, spending time with one another, working more on making a house, a home. We worked on showing Daddy the Rhythms that work for us, and the ones that just don’t anymore. We changed things.

I watched from my comfy spot in cyber space other homeschool famlies talk about going from this class, to another, to yet another and wondered if infact they where ever home. I also wondered if I was that out of the house if I would have the same colds they seemed to be passing around. That battle is hard enough!

I got to thinking, how much out of the house is enough? How much is too much? I think for us that our children will go out with us to do the things of living, but classes like Kingfu and groups like Girl Scouts will be one per child per week. We can change them out as it fits. Add to that a co-op and a park day and I think the week looks more then full enough.

Always seaking balance.
