As my family gets ready for a month long trip across country to see family and friends, some we have not seen in longer than 5 years and as I get ready to mail off the book “Omnivore’s Dilemma” to it’s new home for another read by another family I wonder about what my family will find ourselves eating and what the real cost of that food will be.
While we normally try and avoid fast food and preservatives and try and eat organics as our tight military budget will allow I have to admit that fast food on a long car trip can seem like a blessing. Till I think about how that food got to us, the politics we are supporting by eating it, and the rare food illness that can attack us because of consuming it because really there are no laws enforced to protect us from simply harmful, bad, food.
