Thoughts on the shock wave from Newtown – on guns and gods

You may see a tweet or message from me today about how the fighting over and guns and gods is making all of this more sad some how. Little bodies are not yet even in the ground, we have not had time to mourn. So you will not find this blog doing business as usual, you will not see the gift guide updated today. There needs to be room for sorrow.

I could not help though but post this on my own personal facebook wall because it is so sad to see all the posts, the anger, the pushing, and the disrespect for others going on. It is very hard on the heart in a time when we should be coming together. I tried to think logically about it though and this is what I posted. Here will be as there, please don’t try to debate me on this. This is me taking space for myself.

While hearts are broken I see spilling around us talk of gun control and gun defense and hurtful words of “if god was in schools” and then a church group protesting the funerals… I keep thinking, why is it the side that will defend the constitutional right to guns so much but want to shred the constitutional part of separation of church and state? No one says you can not pray, they say you can’t make a room full of children with different beliefs pray like you. Is prayer so weak that it has to be led? is it so weak that you can’t do it to yourself and have it work? That isn’t my point though. My point is that we need to protect our constitution. While we need to also change, have better gun control and mental health options. If you want your child to pray in school, send them to a private school but know this could have happened there too. Lets not be hypocrites. My husband risks his life to defend the constitution, I have had 14 years to think about such things. This is how I feel. Don’t try to argue with how I feel, not today please.
