Reflection on Newtown deaths from a Secular Homeschooling Mother

The sun rose today

It rose on a day with broken hearts and little broken bodies.

It rose even though we know that things are not ok.

It rose as it has for over 4 billion years.

A reminder that we must go on.

A reminder that we are star dust today mixed with tears.

An opportunity today to do better.

To my loved ones: I do not have religion. What comforts others in these hard times doesn’t comfort me. My husband tells me I still have faith though, that he sees it in how I talk of nature and science and the beauty to be found in life, in my wonder at the stars. Maybe he is right. All I know is that thinking of the vastness of things, of the age of the sun, these things some how bring peace. Maybe they will bring some to others too. -shrug- Do what works for you! Love you, no matter what you believe.
