The Organizational Tip You’re Forgetting This Year!

Do you remember what you promised yourself around the time the ball dropped on the new year this year? Maybe the memory has faded lost in the kissing and bubbly celebration, or maybe you just whispered something while tucking in a child for the 4th time that night. Chance are, you made a resolution of some kind and like so many of us, it might have been to get better organized.

I know mom after mom has told me about her need to get it done and while some of us have made great strides in this area, others have forgotten already. No matter where you are in your goal to organize your home and life, one thing I have forgotten and others have forgotten is how important it is to organize our online lives that take us away from our loved ones for so long.

Take a look at one of my e-mail accounts for a moment and notice that I some how have over 140,000 e-mails not even opened. There are over a million e-mails on that account. It is very distracting. So first thing first, vow to unsubscribe to everything you don’t open or love!  This in itself might take a while at first but will be so very worth it given all the time it will save you for the year to come. Many e-mail services have an unsubscribe link at the bottom of them and some e-mail accounts have a button that will send an unsubscribe e-mail for you cutting dowm on the time it takes to get this done.

Next on the list to organize your online life is to cancel any subscriptions or services you’re not using, specially the ones that charge. I had to cancel a few paying sites my kids liked but no longer use this week. Tracking down all the info on them was a bit annoying but worth it to not see those little charges every month knowing my kids don’t use the service. If you have a MyLife account you can get a MyLife Refund by contacting their customer service. Other sites let you cancel with a simple click of a button. Use your bank statements to help you track them all down and decide if you still use them or need them.

Next on your organizational journey online is to thin out your social networks. Don’t feel guilty about this either, your time has value and you shouldn’t be spending it on people not worth it. You know the ones I am talking about, the bible thumper cousin who says things like school shootings happen because we don’t have prayer in school anymore. Or the old school mate you have zero in common with and only accepted the friend request out of momentary curiosity. Our loved ones deserve more of our time and we need to give it to them, not to these other people.

I hope this helps you remember what is important and that it helps motivate you to organize your internet life for the sake the kids and your sanity. You matter. Take back your time!

I would love to be more organized. You are right being organized online is a huge help. I try to always unsubscribe to e-mails I never open. It helps to keep my inbox less overwhelming.

  2. I am working on being more organized in our house. I figure I better get everything in a very organized manner before this next baby comes.
