Should You Get An Air Purifier?

The short answer in my opinion is yes and here are the reasons why I have air purifiers in my own home to help protect my family from indoor air pollution. This is why you should consider a Smart air purifier.

The dangers of indoor air pollution are bigger than I had ever known till a few years ago. I had once read that Homemakers had shorter life expectancy than our out of the house working counterparts but I never understood why. I can’t say for sure but perhaps we stay indoors more and perhaps that is a danger. This is a concern of mine given all I have come to learn about indoor air pollution. So many of us are inside for most of our days and in the winter it is even worse with doors and windows rarely being left open to conserve heat. Our families deserve something as basic as clean air don’t you agree? Why are people not talking more about this issue? Keeping our families healthy is important!

Most of us have central AC or Heat and most of us do not change air filters often enough or use quality ones. This means that all kinds of things from bacteria and viruses to VOCs (Volatile organic compounds) and mold, dust mites and toxins just keep getting kicked up into the air and moved around our homes to get breathed in by our family.

Did you know that The World Health Organization says that 3.8 million premature deaths annually from noncommunicable diseases including stroke, heart disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and lung cancer are attributed to exposure to household air pollution. I have talked about indoor air pollution before, and trying to keep from getting sick, and it is a topic I will keep bringing up as it is important.

As we rent, we can’t put in one of these amazing home air purifiers that can take care of this issue for the whole house but we do have air purifiers for many of the rooms in our homes. Not all air purifiers are the same either. I would suggest looking for one that has an electrical charge for killing airborne pathogens. I think all offices should have them to help keep everyone at work healthy. Perhaps suggest one? This is certainly the time of year most people get sick and the perfect time of year to be thinking about this topic.

The EPA says that our indoor air pollution is two to five times more toxic than our outdoor air pollution in most homes. There are test kits and companies to test your indoor air quality and if you have these symptoms I would certainly look into that.

  • Burning eyes
  • Breathlessness
  • Cough
  • Chronic runny nose
  • Digestive problems
  • Dizziness
  • Dry Eyes
  • Fatigue
  • Headache
  • Muscle and joint pain
  • Nausea
  • Poor concentration
  • Rash
  • Sinus problems
  • Sleep issues
  • Sore throat

Everyday things contribute to air pollution so you can bet that your home has an issue even if you believe everyone is healthy. Furniture and Building materials and even the ground under your home are contributing to VOCs. The paint, the carpet, the house hold cleaners, the chemicals in your wood treated floors. We are surrounded by thinks making our air quality a hazard. Yes, I absolutely think air purifiers are something all homes need. When we know better we do better.
