1.      Sunburn

When you are on vacation, you will do everything to keep your children safe. When they play outside on the street or in their friend’s house, however, it is harder to keep an eye on them. Kids can get a sunburn even in schools. While some nurseries and schools advise parents to give their kids a sunhat and put on sunscreen, weather conditions are not easy to predict. If your child suffers from sunburn, you need to use after sun lotion. Avoid giving them a bath for a few days, and keep an eye on them, to make sure they didn’t suffer a sunstroke as well.

2.      Electric Shock

Kids like playing with toys and machines, and even touching the switch with wet hands can cause an electric shock. You need to lay them down and keep an eye on them for a while, to make sure they are ok. If they show a sign of shock or look unconscious, it is time to call the ambulance, just in case. Tell your kids about the danger electrical devices pose, and don’t let them operate them until you are confident that they can stay safe.

3.      Bike Accident

Kids often fall off the bike and injure themselves. The most important thing you need to do is make sure that there are no fractures. Bruises and cuts can be treated using your first aid kit, but make sure you disinfect the affected area first. If your child has suffered a bike accident due to the careless behavior of a motorist, you might want to contact a personal injury lawyer who can get you a compensation and make the guilty party take responsibility for their actions.

4.      Falling Off Stairs

Kids run everywhere, and they love taking two or three steps at a time. If they happen to fall off the stairs, you need to check them out for signs of concussion which can be dangerous at an early age. Always call your healthcare provider or emergency services, to make sure there are no injuries that are invisible to the eye and can affect your child’s future.

5.      Poisoning

Small children try everything, and can easily get poisoned. They might eat a plant or try a pill from your medicine cabinet. Always lock your dangerous medication away, and don’t leave them within reach. The same applies to alcohol and cleaning products. Bleach can cause long term injuries when swallowed. Keep your chemicals, drugs, and other dangerous substances locked away at all times.

6.      Choking

Kids, especially babies and toddlers have a habit of putting everything in their mouth. It is best to keep an eye on them all the time, but even one minute without supervision can be dangerous. Learn some simple first aid methods and use them on your child, if you suspect they are choking because they swallowed something. It is always best to get an X-ray done to make sure there is nothing obstructing their airways.

7.      Bites

If your child is bitten by a dog or an insect, you need to make sure you are dealing with their injuries immediately. If you know the dog’s owner, you should ask for their vaccination records, but if not, it might be time to visit your local clinic for a checkup. Insect bites can swell up, and you might find out that your child is allergic to bees or wasps. If the bite becomes red and inflamed, you need to seek urgent medical care.

Kids have a habit of getting into trouble. They are curious, and like copying adults. Teach them some basic safety guidelines and expect them to ignore them until the first accident. Keep them safe by locking away dangerous items, such as sharp knives and medicine. Learn some first aid methods that can potentially save their lives when they get into trouble. Take on a parenting course, if you believe you worry too much, and learn how to deal with minor injuries yourself.
