Sept 24th — Don’t let your laptop catch fire!

The last few days my laptop for seemingly no good reason kept maxing the CPU and not coming back down without a restart and even then that did not last long. It got so so hot last night it finally hit me, not a virus but a hardware issue, maybe the fan died, maybe the heatsink some how failed. To make sure it was hot, I downloaded a few programs. The first being Speedfan. It showed me that my laptop hit 204 degrees. Well that explained the odd smell I was trying to deny. So I did what my husband had told me to do long before that point and shut it off!

My Samsung QX410 has seen better days in it’s near year of life. Now to figure out if I had gotten insurance on it or not. Normally we fix our own issues as DH (Dear Husband) is brilliant and I am a DIY girl however having to not pay a new fan and other such things if that is the issue would be wonderful too. Before any work is done on it though, getting my important information off it has to happen first. Normally we would pull the hard drive out and put it in another machine to extract, however we do not want to void any warranty. So time to move photos first.

So I have over 14 thousand family photos as it turns out, about 61GB. And it said it would take over a day to transfer. My laptop turned on would not last that long, the temp was already going up. Wonder hubby thought to put ice trays under the laptop and it lowered things a bit and kept the temp from climbing. We managed to get about everything! Now to get it to Best Buy… wish us well!

Normally I would be crushed about not having my computer but my Husbands computer is a twin and he is letting me use his as much as I want. I do adore him.
