School is Coming! Are your Kids Excited?

School is around the corner for many and that means a lot of excited kids. Are yours excited? We homeschool and I have to say that we are certainly excited to start a new school year. My 5 year old daughter is thrilled to be “official” this year and my 7 year old son feels like he gets to show her how it is done! My soon to be 14 year old who has always been homeschooled is excited to be going to a cyber high school this September. This will be the first year that I am not her teacher and while there is a sorrow to that, I am also glad to have more time to help the younger kids in our family. I will of course be here for our teen and we will be doing side lessons as well.

Our Homeschool Year officially starts August 1st so you can picture how busy things might be here. We have been getting organized and planning and the kids have been letting us know what kinds of things they want me to make sure they get to learn about this year. We are starting the year off right with a field trip to the national zoo! I know most kids are not back in school yet so I am a bit worried it might be very crowded but we will risk it as we have heard nothing but wonderful things from others who have gone. Of course the zoo brings up moral issues but that is a post for another day.

So now you know a bit about what is going on here. Are your kids excited? Are you?

P.S. This fold down desk is adorable and I think I need two of them as we have 4 kids and only 2 official school desks!

  1. I don’t think my grandson is too excited yet. This year he’s nine and now a little bit more independent. He’s also a little nervous about 4th grade.

  2. My son is a little young to worry about school 🙂 He is 16 months- not that he isn’t learning a lot everyday. I am definitely thinking about homeschooling. It sounds like a good way to engage your children in learning and for the parent to also be engaged with their child.

I think that in the United States, you might begin a little bit earlier than we do, here in Canada? We don’t head back until after Labour Day. Although, I remember when I was a kid, I got excited as soon as I started seeing that fresh paper go on sale!

Growing up in New England we didn’t go back to school till after Labour Day either in September. We have moved all over the country and noticed many places go back in August and some kids don’t get summer break at all. Homeschooling here for us starts the new year in August. I have to say though I am excited to find the new normal and get back to the daily rhythm. Enjoy the rest of your summer Laura! (Love the smell of new paper LOL)

I found myself in tears a bit ago, though I admit I have been emotional these days for a number of reasons, all because my oldest has been talking about the future and going to college. How can she be getting so big. I guess I should feel lucky she is excited about the idea of college! I hope your son feels the excitement soon. Maybe he is just the cool as a cucumber type and is just going to breeze through classes?!?

Homeschool Pre-K can be so much fun and very exciting! I find myself having to remind friends new to homeschooling specially the early grades that learning needs to be play and that play is learning, the academics just fall into place with that in mind! Have a great time and feel free to ask any questions you have and share your experiences!
