If you love biking and have decided that you want to invest in a bicycle, the challenge comes now in picking out the right type of bike.  Unfortunately, when it comes to bicycles, it’s not a “one style fits all” type of deal.  Designs, sizes, and styles all matter when you’re bike shopping.  We’ve compiled the information you need on three top-selling styles – BMX bikes, Mountain bikes and Giant bikes. So now you’ll have the details you need before you embark on your bike shopping adventure!

BMX bikes:

BMX bikes (BMX stands for Bicycle Moto Cross) are one of the most popular types of bikes in the world. In fact, the bikes are so popular that there is now a successful extreme sport for people of all ages! It is so popular that in 2008, the Olympics made it an official sport. These bikes are available in three models which include the racing model, the freestyle model, and the jump model.  The racing model is designed for users that want to ride faster.  The freestyle model has a heavy duty frame and is one that is used in stunts. It is often seen in skate parks for riders that want to perform tricks there, such as spinning 360 degrees and standing above the wheels. The jump model is used mainly for dirt biking and combines both the freestyle and race bike design into this unique bike. It also has a heavy duty frame and has nobbled tires for use in various terrains.

Mountain bikes:

These types of bikes come in five different styles: cross country/trail, downhill, freeride, and dirt jump.  Each one can easily tackle various types of territory and obstacles.  Trail bikes are good for downward territory that is mostly on a downward slope, but can also maneuver climbs and jumps. Downhill bikes are built for speedy mountain slopes and have heavier tires, gears, and suspension that are built for rougher terrain. Free ride bikes can do pretty much anything! They give the rider a sense of freedom – if you want to climb, jump, or just get creative in your biking, this is the bike for you. Dirt jump bikes are a perfect combination of a BMX bike and a mountain bike, and allow riders to take the bike over awesome jumps and obstacles without having much rear suspension. In addition, these bikes have oversized handlebars in the front, which gives riders the chance to spin the bars without interrupting any rear or front suspension.

Giant bikes:

These bikes were first introduced in the early 1980s and have since become a model that is affordable and practical. These road bikes cover traditional, easy commuting to touring and community terrain. In addition, for those training for triathlons, Giant bikes prove effective for this type of event.

Even if you have narrowed down your search to these three types of bikes, it’s very important to visit your local bike shop and talk to a professional about what you’re looking for. They may have pointers or tips that you haven’t thought of.  In addition, it’s imperative that you try out the styles of bikes that you are considering.  Sit on a few, see what they feel like, how they handle, and determine if the bike will do what you want.  There is no need to spend a lot of money of a bike unless you’re sure that the style and design is appropriate for you and your lifestyle.  If you can’t find a brand online that fits what you’re looking for, that’s ok! Put on your cycling shorts, grab your cycling helmet and other cycling clothing, and then make your way to your local bike shop to check out bikes that are for sale.
