It is back to school time and one thing not far from the minds of parents is the health factor that comes into play when you squeeze all these little people into little rooms for most of their day. Germs spread like wild fire and of course that means the kids bring those germs home. Even though though our Crunchy Parenting style has us homeschooling it doesn’t mean we are immune to the germs the spread around our communities, specially seeing these days the kids best friends go to public school.
Hand washing of course is a must and one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of Germs. It is not though the only way. One important thing that many forget is germs are not just on our hands and on surfaces but also in the air.
One of the most effective ways to make sure air in the home is clean and healthy is to use air purifiers. I was delighted when one of the best air purifier companies sent me a room purifier to review. The timing couldn’t be better. While we have two other air purifiers in the home they are not built for large spaces, this unit if made for small rooms and offices and perfect for my bedroom.
Installing it was simple and quick, no technical know-how required. This machine is not only made to make like more healthy but also easier. It has indicator lights to show when it is time to change the filters, it has timers if you only want to run the unit during different times. It is suggested though that it be run all the time and that is how I have been using it with few exceptions. One of the great things about this unit is that it provides white noise, this is specially great for bedrooms. It might be a bit louder than you would like if on the highest setting. Low works just as well though and is quiet! Personally I like the white noise and it is a reminder that the air is of much better quality with it on.
Odor – We have sugar glider and like some other animals such as ferrets, they have scent glands that can be very musky. Our gliders are in our room in a very large cage. Even with a high quality special diet with our male glider the scent can be obvious and that isn’t something I adore about them. With this air purifier it helps clear the odor from the air, not simply mask it so that I can be within feet of the cage and not smell my cut little fluffy pets. I think this unit would be specially great for a room with a cat box or where dogs love to sleep! Remember pets that go outside bring in allergens that can enter the air of your home.
Most air purifiers have only 2 or 3 filters but this one has 5! “They are: a carbon pre-filter, HEPA filter, VOC or activated carbon filter, and a TiO2 filter. Allergies – While I have a cat, I am sadly allergic. Not deadly allergic of course but if she sleeps on my bedding or is in my bedroom too it gets to be a certain kind of torture. Washing bedding helps and reminding her to get off my bed helps too. She is fairly trained though stubborn in he old age. I know many people give up cats even for small allergies but unless I was dying from it I wasn’t giving up my kitty. I am a glutton for punishment though my mother says. This applies to other cats as well. We often cat sit for a friend these days. She will drop off her beautiful black kitty who is used to living alone with her human mommy and no other people or pets. When she is here with 4 kids, 2 small dogs, 1 old grumpy cat, and sugar gliders she tends to hang out in my room and often on my bed. This visit I noticed my symptoms are not nearly so bad even with this kitty enjoying my room too. Hard to tell her to get out considering the overwhelming attention she gets in the rest of the house, plus she likes me. This air purifier makes it easier to love her back!
In the end I very much recommend this air purifier for small rooms. It is a great time of year to make sure your home air quality is a priority and that back to school time is a healthy and fun time without days missed because of illness.
