Field Trip to the National Zoo – Part 7

Back to Part 6

One of the main reasons we visited the zoo again so soon was that we didn’t get a chance to see some of the stars of the National Zoo, the Giant Pandas!

We looked and looked for the Giant Pandas on this trip. We looked high and we looked low and we looked hard. While we got to see their beautiful exhibit, the Panda house was closed and we suspect they must have been in there. There was a very interesting sign asking visitors to be quiet as to not disturb panda pregnancy. My son could not understand why this was important and it was a good opportunity to explain stress. Both our 7 year old and our 13 year old in other parts of the zoo had to be reminded to be less loud. My teen didn’t understand why till I asked her how she would like it if strangers came into our home playing very loud music almost all day and night that she doesn’t like. She seemed to understand it more then! I think it was just the teen girl thing going on today with her and her friend. Giggly loud girls! But don’t worry, homeschool kids are not social! LOL

So needless to say, we have to go visit the zoo again soon so we can see the Panda Bears!

These loud beautiful pink birds where very entertaining and the kids loved watching them and the ducks and trying to count them all. There are more than 40!

Right before an Emu came up behind the girls trying to get their jean buttons or shirts! It was funny watching the girls dance away shocked. There are warning signs!

How has she gotten so big? She is soon 14 and all together her own person. I adore her and love our time together. We are very different though and I think this is a good thing. It means we let her be herself and haven’t overly controlled her and hopefully have taught her to think for herself. We try as Crunchy parents to have cage free kids, meaning we try not limit them being who they are. It can be challenging I must admit. I am a bit worried about what our relationship might be like in a few years. Worry does nothing though I know. I think it is part of being a Parent, is it avoidable?

While we didn’t see the Pandas this trip, we also managed the trip without any bee stings this time! Goodness there are a lot of them at the zoo! I know bees are vital to our eco-system so I try not to hold it against them but we had so many buzzing around the baby and I. Is there a natural repellent we could wear next time? Something to look up!

We hope you enjoy the start of the school year as much as we are! Happy Learning!
