This game was created by a mom because her son was struggling with some basic math skills.  She wanted a fun way to help him practice and reinforce what he was learning in school.  That mom is also the founder of Kabuki Helps, which has grown into a community of parents and teachers committed to making learning fun for elementary-school-age kids.

We have been playing with this card deck with all of our children. Even our 15 year old HopePixie likes to play it and help her younger siblings. I like that the multiplication is challenging for our new 3rd grader Mr. Handsome and yet the game is easy to play with different rules for Storm Baby (1st grade) and Smilie Baby (she is 4!) Our 1st grader still has to count sometimes with subtraction and the shapes on the cards helps her with this. Our 4 year old has numbers down and loves to count.

We had been playing the “war” type game of lesser than and greater than with Smilie Baby but she insisted after seeing her older siblings playing with other rules that she had to play the addition game as well. She isn’t yet to multiplication but she tries so hard and it is very funny playing with her!

Unlike how the game is set up to be played, with two people, we will dived the deck as normal for 2 people and when those players have discard piles those piles will be given to two other players to play with, in this way the discard piles go back and forth and 4 people play at the same time but with different rules. With my husband playing this meant sometimes someone had to sit out and this made for often a grumpy teenager as well…. the game isn’t for her. LOL We need to get another deck and make rules that let us play with 5 players! 🙂

The kids are learning to be faster with numbers and are having a great time. I couldn’t ask for more!

So my advice is to get these cards and add them to family game night. They are great for bonding time and learning! Keep things light and fun and go at your child’s pace!

Mr. Handsome would like it known these cards are very well made and slippy and hard to build with! 🙂

I remember playing war with my brother when we were younger. My kids would rather play uno or skip bo over war.
