October 13th — Essential Oils for Colds

Essential Oils have long been used to help heal illness. I am no expert on them though have used them for years for many reasons. My last midwife swore by a certain kind of them for near everything.

I like to have a few of them around for natural remedies. My last post was about humidifiers and I mentioned you can add things to them to help illness pass. This is what we are neck deep in doing these days.

So this is part of my medicine cabinet:

My favorite for colds is Eucalyptus oil. Remember that smell in vix vapor rub as kid? That was one of the things in it! It helped right? I like EOs better, no sticky feeling! Just add a few drops to the humidifier or the humidifier additive hole. It will be spread through the air and help everyone breath better.

Eucalyptus oil is known to be antibacterial, antifungal, antimicrobial, antiviral, and anti inflammatory. It is used for a number of things from fever (Have not tried this!) mussel pain, and a spectrum of respiratory issues such as cold, cough, running nose, sore throat, and nasal congestion.

Not to mention I like how it smells. So we are using a lot of it. I ran out of the pure therapeutic brand my midwife recommends so had to revert to my old bottle that you can see on the left. It works, but I rather use the best of the best personally. I would not suffer a winter without this oil. If I could only have one, it would be this one. Do you have an EO you adore for colds?

The other two I am using is peppermint and melaleuca. Running low on them right now though too! Eeeck.

Reminder, I am just a mama, not a Dr, and I don’t give medical advice. Heck, i have a hard time enough taking medical advice! 🙂
