October 12th — Are you ready for the flu?

I wasn’t.

And we might have it!

My oldest and youngest are sick. As parents sometimes the worst runs through our mind, what if it is something bad like whooping cough? Most of the outbreaks are mainly in vaccinated populations so that is no sure protection. Then we try and calm down and think we can home treat, maybe it will not be bad. Sometimes we get lucky. Other times, like now, we are woken by a crying little and sounds that make us worry.

We should be ready!
What can we do to be ready?
I am going to give you my list over the next few days of things to have on hand. Your millage may vary. I am not a Dr, this is not medical advice, just a mom like many of you reading.

Have at least one Humidifier! Preferably a cool air one. This is the one we have:

Yes, it is cute. Not my first choice but it had good reviews, was on sale at walgreens when I decided we needed a cool air one. It is often used in the winter but even in the summer when we lived in the desert as it would get so very dry.

Humidifiers can help prevent hives, dry skin, dry eyes, and cotton mouth that is often associated with dry cold air. It can help a runny nose and help air move smoothly through the sinus. You can also add helping natural remedies for added benefits. More on this tomorrow. What I didn’t know was that they can also keep static electricity from building up in the home. I mean shuffling across the rug quickly to shock a sibling is fun and all but some how really annoying when your a grown up being stocked by little kids intent on zapping you. The cat will thank you as well of course! 🙂

Do you have a humidifier already? Do you love it?
