National Novel Writing Month – NaNoWriMo 2018 – Day 1

What is NaNoWriMo?

NaNoWriMo is National Novel Writing Month. In the month of November crazy people become writers who set out to pull out of their minds 50k words and put them to paper. That is if you are doing the math 1666.6 words a day! 666…. some say that number is evil. This challenge can certainly feel like it! It is also flat out amazing! Check out NaNoWriMo.org for more details!

Am I actually going to join in on NaNoWriMo this year?

I was 90% certain I was not going to even attempt NaNoWriMo this year! I had failed the last 3 years in a row for one. Over the last 14 years of attempting it, I have only finished 50k words in a month 6 times! Never have I gone on to edit them or share them with anyone. I actually don’t even have them anymore, they died on a laptop years ago. I figured this year, why bother?

November is solidly the hardest month of work for me, followed by December being the second hardest. Ask any blogger like me. We do so much trying to help make the holidays fantastic for readers, finding the best gifts and tips! So many deadlines! I figured if I tried to write a novel this month it would suffer the same as years past, I would end up hating it and my blog would suffer too. I could either do both, sucking at both, or just stick to blogging and at least hit deadlines for that without many tears.

But then…..

I saw a dear friend doing NaNoWriMo and I hadn’t done one of those with her in so many years. Thanks Sabrina! I remember one year her and I were doing it, before I moved far away, again, and we got to go to a NaNoWriMo event and I met someone who then became one of my favorite authors as it turns out. I adore books but had never really been into historical fiction. I am now though! Anyway, it was an event and a day with a friend that I will never forget and will always love! Stephanie has been such an inspiration to my writing and Sabrina is the magical friend that everyone should have!

Then I found out today my oldest daughter with no warning is doing NaNoWriMo too! She hasn’t finished in the past but she has decided that doing a fan fiction is the way to go. The world is already there before her and she just has to make characters to play in it. I wish her luck and will be cheering her on. She says though I need to do it too…. she was counting on me to do it too….  Well I guess I have no choice….. now I must do it.

Wish me luck! I have no plot, and it is a problem! LOL But there is a book to help with this actually specially for NaNoWriMo. This means for certain though my month will be FILLED with writing. Thank goodness I love to write and ramble!

If you are doing NaNoWriMo too, let me know and we can buddy up on the official site. If you love to write but never thought you could really do it, join us! It couldn’t hurt. You can do it alone, you can get support online, and almost every area around the country and many parts of the world have local meet ups to write together, to support, and to inspire!
