#NaNoWriMo – Stumbling around in the Dark!

For the Love of National Novel Writing Month

I have gotten to the point of asking myself why I do this year after year. I never edit the novels I do finish the month with and the years I fail are hard on the heart. I find I have to remind myself of all the wonderful things about NaNo that drive so many people to attempt the insanity of 50,000 words in a month. Certainly the sheer habit forming schedule of it is a plus, and it has helped over the years with my blogging as well. It is said that it takes 21 days to form a habit and NaNoWriMo happens to be 30 days! Typing speed is improved I would think, at least for me. NaNoWriMo has even helped teach me how to type with my eyes closed and as we are not supposed to edit our novel as we write them for this challenge, that can actually be very beneficial. If you can’t see the errors they are less likely trip you up and make you twitch. Oh yes, a lot of twitching going on!

  How is NaNoWriMo coming along?

For me it isn’t going every well at all. My laptop is acting up and making it now impossible to move it without further damage to the screen. As I happen to NaNoWriMo best when not at home, this is a challenge. My amazing husband thankfully lets me use his laptop when out and about that helps some, but it means I don’t have my notes and research on me and this can trip me up badly some days. It also means a lot of file moving and this is annoying. It could be worse though. I know some people trying to NaNoWriMo on cell phones! Oh those brave and crazy souls!

Not going to finish NaNoWriMo on time.

At this rate I am not going to finish NaNoWriMo on time the site says. I believe it. I am a mother of 4, we homeschool, and I am a blogger in the middle of the most busy season for us when it comes to reviews. I adore my husband, kids, and clients and I just don’t know how to fit it all in with NaNoWriMo this year. NaNoWriMo though is a gift I give myself and if I can’t manage this for myself what kind of example am I setting for my children who make goals for themselves? A question to ponder. Not that I have time to ponder!

I guess if you had to sacrifice something, NaNoWriMo is the one to let go of. It’s a really tough month to make that a project, but I wonder if that was part of their motive. Hmmmmmm

  2. I agree, this is really a busy time. I admire you for trying! I write when I can, but, too much pressure seems to really destroy balance.

  3. I haven’t heard of this before. I’m sorry it’s been tough completing. I know this is the busiest time for us bloggers so I would also have a hard time with extra commitments.

  4. Okay this is the first time I ever heard what NaNoWriMo actually meant. So thanks for that, because I see it all over the place, and was always curious about that!
