As a Mom of Many I know what it is like to be busy and try to give my family the best of everything possible. Sometimes just getting through the day is hard though and it seems like I didn’t do a good job as much of anything. We all have those days. As my family has gotten bigger and bigger being a crunchy parent has become harder. I will be honest, we are not as eco-friendly as we once were. We no longer cloth diaper, we use too many paper products, shopping local hasn’t been the priority as of late, and why are all the lights on?
Well the first and last things I mentioned are changing! Our youngest baby, our last, is potty training now so soon we will be diaper free! This is super exciting! The last thing is changing because of EcoBee Switch!
Ecobee was started in 2007 by a Dad who figured out the biggest eco footprint his family had was their heating and cooling. He created a fantastic thermostat that I think every Mom deserves. It has a sensor and can tell when you are home or not and learn what temps you like and how to keep you all comfortable but also save money and use less energy.
Ecobee also has smart home light switches and this is another tech upgrade I think all Moms deserve! It is also one of the things I am loving right now!
Picture laying in bed with your husband, the kids have been asleep for hours. You and your love want to settle in for a movie in bed before sleep. One of you though needs to get up and shut off the light. Neither wants to move though…. “Your turn love!” and the reply “Nope, I got you a snack a bit ago…” “but… but…” LOL And so it goes in houses around the country, night after night.
Not with the Ecobee Smart Switch! “Alexa, shut off the bedroom light” and rather than reminding you it is your turn to do it, she just says “Ok!” and out goes the light!
So how can you get this magic?
So you might be thinking this was hard to set up, but it wasn’t! There is a great area of the Ecobee site to make sure your home is compatible but I am guessing for the light switches it isn’t such a huge issue given this house built in the 1930’s wasn’t hard to do.

Between the packaging explaining install and the videos on the Ecobee site, it is easy to install!
So the very very old wiring in this house was also very very dirty!
Husband could have done this of course but I tool electrical shop in high school and when I saw the wires…. I took over for husband as I just had to! Even after all these years, I love wires.
We live in very very old military housing and it has been painting a million times by others. Ignore the pink! It will all be painted grey come spring time!
So here is the new switch all set up, we will switch it back out when we move. You can still tap it to turn it off and on by hand, but it is great to just tell the built in Alexa to turn the light on and off. The built in Alexa also does all the awesome Alexa stuff.
Picture me in the morning in the dark… “Alexa turn on the light!” and she says “ok” and the light is on. Then I ask “Alexa what is the weather today” and she tells me the weather now and what it will be today. “Alexa tell me the news” or “What do I have planned for today?”
So much joy in this light switch!
Eco-friendly as the switch can tell when someone is in the room and turn off the light! Isn’t that fantastic for kids specially? Parents deserve technology like this! Really everyone does but Moms need one less worry and anything to make their lives easier!
