MiO MiO My! No thanks!

I first heard of MiO on a BzzAgent daily “I want in” event. I was busy that day and didn’t enter or think much of it. It looked interesting. Days after though BzzAgent on their facebook page linked to a short blog post that did get into that campaign. You can find it here: http://www.mommyvfreebies.com/2011/09/oh-mio-new-daily-bzzagent-campaign.html

It comes across to me as a “guessing review” as the blogger has never tried it and makes some guesses about how her kids might feel about it, how co-workers might feel about it. I don’t want to bzz like that however, I do not want to making blind reviews or just being part in another marketing tool for internet hits. I thought BzzAgent was looking for people to creatively show why they wanted to join in on certain products, but I am thinking maybe that is not it…. in anycase, it must have worked because while shopping at the commissary this evening (Military grocery shopping center) I noticed MiO for the first time and I got one! 2.99. Not bad I thought. As a diabetic sometimes I get really sick of plain water and this little bottle promised some fun without spiking my blood sugar and joy, No Aspartame in it! However while it says natural I couldn’t tell you what most of the ingredients are by memory alone.

I am getting ahead of myself though, you want to know how it tastes! I put in 2 squirts in my water bottle. Boy was my peace tea water sweet! Too sweet actually. Hours later my belly is still aggravated with my choice to finish the bottle. I kept thinking I would like it… any minute suddenly I would love it… I didn’t. I passed it to a house guest, she didn’t like it but agreed it was very strong! My husband tried it, said it was like eating a whole peach in one bite, not great but not bad. Ok, mixed reviews. I am thinking at this point trying far far less than I did. Maybe getting another flavor!

I get on here late at night and try and see what other flavors they are and I run into a few things, like the ingredient list!

Water, Citric Acid, Propylene Glycol, Malic Acid, Contains Less than 2% of Natural Flavor, Sucralose (Spenda) and Acesulfame Potassium(Sweeteners), Potassium Citrate, Red 40, Blue 1, Potassium Sorbate (Preservative).

Three of those ingredients are on the banned list for Whole Foods, Link Here my favorite grocery store, so I will never find these there. Why? Because that store thinks there is enough evidence that these ingredients are not safe. Certainly Acesulfame Potassium is NOT a natural ingredient. -sigh- So now I am wondering if I will bother trying another cute little bottle of this “stuff” as I am not impressed yet.

MiO MiO My…. what to do.
