First let me tell you about my Kitties Food and then about how I made their new Cat Cave bed!

Cat Lovers tend to understand that we really can’t spoil our beloved furry companions enough. In our house we have two fluffy Overlords who only pay us attention when they want something, food, a clean litter box, and of coarse when they want to be petted and loved on. We have a very very old cat and a rather young one, both with very different personalities and wants and needs. Buying them the best natural food is wonderful but sometimes we have to go one step further and make them something from the heart, so I made them a cat cave! Tutorial on this a little further in this post. Right now though let me tell you about their favorite food.

My Handmade Cat Cave Tutorial

Size US P Crochet Hook

50oz of Super Chunky Yarn

The yarn I used is called Falling Leaves from Loops & Threads

5 single crochet = 5 inches.

 

1. Magic Loop

2. Single crochet 11 into the magic loop

3. Chain 3 and then Double Crochet 2 into each of the 11 crochet making 22. Join.

4. Chain 3 and then Double Crochet 2 into each of the 22 crochet making 44. Join.

5. Chain 3 and then Double Crochet 2 into every other stitch making 68. Join.

5. Chain 3 and then Double Crochet into first 3 stitches, then 2 into every 3rd  stitch making 80 total. Join.

By now your work should measure about 22 inches across! 

6. Single crochet around the 80. Join.

7. Reverse Crochet back into row 5 making a ledge. Join.

8. Chain 3 and then Double Crochet around the 80. Join.

9. Place a stich marker and Double Crochet 70 and place another stitch marker. Turn work.

This is making the door to the cat cave.

10. Chain 3 and Double Crochet around 70 till you get to other stitch marker. Turn work.

11. Chain 3 and Double Crochet around 70 till you get to other stitch marker. Turn work.

12. Chain 3 and Double Crochet around 70 till you get to other stitch marker. Turn work.

13. Chain 3 and Double Crochet around 70 till you meet your marker and then chain 10 and join.

This is the top of the door.

14. Chain 3 and Reduce Double Crochet around going from 80 stitches to 40. Join.

15. Chain 3 and Reduce Double Crochet around going from 40 to 20. Join.

16. Chain 3 and Reduce Double Crochet around going from 20 to 10. Join.

17. Single Crochet Around 10.

18. Double Crochet Around 10.

19. Single Crochet Around 10 and tie off.

20. Weave in Ends.

 

I love how this cat cave bed came out looking a lot like a fall gourd! It is plenty big enough for large cats too!

I found my kitties very stubborn when it came to getting a photo in good lighting while in the cat cave! This is our very very old kitty Woofy.
