How to Get Your Kids to Find the Fun in Doing Chores

When you are trying to raise your child to find fun and entertainment in taking care of their homes and doing chores, you have to know the right tricks and games. You have spent time and money installing trendy things in your home such as barn doors with sliding barn door hardware. You want it to be taken care of. You can’t be afraid to bring in a little imagination so that your child doesn’t look at this as work. Here are some ideas on how you can make common chores some of the most entertaining activities in your home.

Make taking out the trash a race

By making the trash chore a race, your child not only gets to run out all of their energy, but they also get a household chore done every single day. Now, they don’t necessarily have to be carrying a trash bag if they are too little to carry it and run all the way to the garbage can without making a mess. So until they are actually ready for the full exercise, you can take them through the motions and race them while holding the bag. As they get older, you can give them little bags to practice with until they are ready for a full kitchen garbage bag race.

Make it a super scientific mission to get the dishes cleaned and dried

If your child is interested in becoming a doctor, nurse, or scientist when they grow up, you can make doing the dishes a special project. You have to make sure that everything is properly cleaned and dried off before you are done or else someone could get sick or the alien disease could spread to other people. If you want to bring in a little bit more detail, you can buy science kits that will allow your child to examine each plate for cleanliness before they finish washing so that they really see this as a serious project.

Now they will come out of this with a respect for the chore, the chore gets done, and a little bit of science knowledge. You get three wins out of this.

Gather up sticks and leaves in the yard for a special castle defense system, or a geology adventure

You can get your child to do yard work and learn how to do it properly if you make this a game as well. Luckily, getting your child outside shouldn’t be that difficult if you start this adventure from a young age. Get them to pick up all of the sticks in the yard and put them into one pile. Now get them to do the same with leaves but put those in a different pile. Once you have your two piles, these are now your traps that you have set up in your yard for the bad guys to fall into.

Show them how cool it is when the carpet changes color after being vacuumed

If your child is one that is very creative, you can show them how neat it is when the floor is freshly vacuumed and how the carpet will change colors when cleaned. This isn’t something that is exclusive to carpets either. If you have the right mopping equipment, you can show your child how cool and fun it is when you are pretending to be a janitor or a wizard with a broom when cleaning up the kitchen.

Make cleaning up clothes and toys a basketball game

All you need to make this activity a reality is a laundry basket and a toy chest. If you own both of these things, make bedroom clean up the same as a game of horse. Challenge your child to a game of basketball to get them to clean up their room.

It might seem like an impossible task to get your child to take chores seriously. You might think that they will never be able to take care of their homes when they are older because they aren’t taking care of their home now. But if you make it fun, you might be surprised by how they react. These are the best ways that you can bring some fun to your child’s everyday chores. If you start treating the chores like a game, they will have no trouble remembering to do them every single day. And they won’t ever complain about doing them as they grow up either because they will remember how much fun these chores were when they were little.
