Homeschooling on the road…

Our little growing military family moves a lot and for a long time we have lived far from home. In fact we had not been able to get home in 5 years and badly needed to so the family could meet our younger two children before yet another one comes into the world. So as crazy as it is, we braved the open road with me 28-32 weeks pregnant.

Day one was an education in many things, we broke down on the side of the highway with no help for 4 hours. Mommy took control and we got to a safe place. For the week following while repairs had been done and we had gotten back on the road our oldest pixie daughter kept busy with her states book, following the highway by reading maps and helping to guide us. Spent time with friends in one state even getting to experience and enjoy some time in a small green private school. Then off for two weeks in New England going from this town, to that, from the mountains with snow to the beach with sun and fun sand. Then a week to get home.

While no table homeschooling was done, it was still and education on parts of America that could not have been had in any classroom or chair.

One of the most interesting talks we have had so far was simply because of the trash on the side of the road in New York City. Seems our oldest pixie has a quest, to clean up the country and world and has many ideas and questions on how. It is an emotional conversation for her and she simply did not understand how people could live near such grossness and not do anything about day after day. The same way we did not understand why no one stopped in 4 hours while we had been broken down on the side of the highway. One thing is clear to me, we have raised a caring child with great heart and big worthy dreams. Now to help her with them, and what ever they might change into.
