One of the many wonderful things about homeschooling are all the opportunities for field trips. While many of our public schooling friends have only 2 field trips a year, we are not limited in how many we can have or really where they can be. I have been impressed over the years with the homeschooling opportunities that are specially for homeschoolers.
A bit ago our 2 oldest homeschoolers, 13 and 7, went to a glass blowing studio in Baltimore, they spent the morning there learning about the basics of glass blowing and each made something to show what they had learned. As they had gone before, they got to make larger objects this time than the glass flowers they created last time.
In this image our 7 year old son is picking colors to add to his glass project.
In this image he is firing it. I have to admit that having the kids working with potentially dangerous stuff is a bit scary but it is taught in such a way that makes safety the priority and the teacher is wonderful!
This is our oldest homeschooler working on her glass art project. She picked the color red to add to her glowing blob of glass.
The red looked like a deep burgundy color when it was still hot, we had no idea how it would actually turn out!
Blog projects turned out beautifully! The kids learned a lot and they really love glass blowing. Now I want a whole set of glasses like the one above! Stunning and special because my hope pixie vampire girl made it!
This is not your grand mothers homeschool experience! Homeschooling stereo types need to change. The kids are not sheltered, they have social skills they learn from others who already have good social skills rather than those their own age who don’t have good social skills. Homeschoolers are neither geniuses or failing to become educated. They are kids out in the world having fun and following their passions!
Oh, wow! That looks like so much fun!!
That is one of the many joys of hoomeschooling! I never thought of glass blowing tho…what a great field trip idea!
