There is a wicked and wide spread myth that homeschool kids are not social and don’t have friends. I have to say time and time again that this just isn’t true. My teen is off right now for a week long birthday bash with some friends. Oh goodness how I miss her. I miss her smile, her laughter, and how she loves create things all the time. I even miss her constantly texting friends and running to her laptop to see who is doing what.
It can be specially hard for military kids to make friends and keep friends, everyone is always moving and things can e frantic with deployments and high and low emotions. There are so many hardships for military kids and one would think homeschooling would add to that. However 3 friends spread far and wide got together again this week and I am so happy for them!
The one in the middle is none other than the teen herself, my hope pixie that is soon to be 15 this month and currently with blue hair. More on that color change another day!
Not only does she have friends, she tends to keep them and keep in touch too. She also has a boyfriend, he happens to be homeschooled as well. More on that in another blog post too…. what is a Mom to do? LOL
My point being, while you can’t judge all homeschool kids by my kids you need to know that we are neck deep in the homeschool world and have been for about 10 years now. We have known many homeschoolers in many places and few of them are the “I knew homeschool kids who where so weird and anti-social” like some people like to say. Aren’t the best people just a little weird anyway? I promise you the three girls in the above photo are all weird in their own wonderful ways and only one of them is a homeschooled kid!
