Helping Children Self-Motivate When Things Are Hard

Motivation can be a tricky thing for all of us and while we tend to know at least in an abstract way what we are aiming for when doing certain things, it can be a lot harder to find the motivation when everything is going wrong! When we burn part of dinner, or when we forget part of a presentation for our bosses we can get down on ourselves and the negative self talk can ruin the rest of dinner or the presentation. We want better for our children and we can help give them tools to help keep them going when things are difficult.

One of those tools is helping to give them positive self talk motivation. So when they fail to it the ball, or they get an answer wrong, they don’t just give up, or give in to the negativity. Help teach them simple mantras to remember!

“Practice makes perfect!”

“If you don’t succeed, try, try again!”

“I think I can, I think I can!”

Sayings like these might also help:

I only fail if I give up!

You always pass failure on the way to success. -Mickey Rooney

I only fail if I give up!

It can be great to read motivational stories with our children and to demonstrate these sayings out loud when we do not do something correctly the first time. It take repetition to put these positive thoughts into our children’s lives. One of the things that helps is to print out the ones we want to remember and put them up around the house!

The Problem is, when the kids get into puberty, they don’t listen to their parents. I don’t know, that’s the time where they have to get through without help from the parents.

i really love these ideas. Its so difficult for me to stay positive and motivated and thats why its so important for me to teach those things to my child. Im going to start early and stay consistent
