For the Love of Dyson! Why oh Why!

For many years now I have heard amazing things about Dyson vacuums, the following this brand has is fantastic and passionate about their beloved vacuums. I can’t say I really understood, but then I have not had the most healthy relationship with vacuums. They tend to die a very young death here, living only about a year before their mediocre motors give out. Why you ask? Well, we have 5 children, sometimes more even, and they are hard on floors. We homeschool and projects can be a handful to clean up after, they are also very creative. Lets face it, they are also very messy. The signature move that most of them have had in the younger years is being a little ninja and stealing away a perfectly plump box of cereal only to spill it’s contents on the floor in a room as far from adult eyes as they can get, only to then have the treasure crushing into the rug by little feet and run over by little toy wheels till the mess is well and truly a tragedy to behold, and clean. Vacuums do not tend to love the hellacious morsels left for them in such magnitude.

Of course the worse thing it seems for our poor vacuums has been the hair, not just from the oh so fluffy pomeranain, the pin/pom, and 2 cats but from me, with hair I about sit on, and darling daughters with hair that makes the word “long” seem like an understatement. The beautiful locks that are so loved happen to be despised by the vacuums who have resigned left and right for years now being unable to handle the burden of the long beauty that ends up locking up their motors. I thought till now that this would just be our lot in life, to be the quick end to many a vacuum over the years that are simply unable to keep up with us.

Perhaps not though! The whisper was that Dyson could change it all. I didn’t have the heart though to buy such a creature only to have it die such a young death like the others. When given the opportunity to review one however….. one that wants to be put to the test, how I could give that change up?

Introducing my Dyson Ball Animal! This limited edition machine is only available from Best Buy. It just came out January 1st (but I have had it for a few weeks now!)

New Dyson Ball Animal Limited Best Vacuum 2

Long before falling in love with this vacuum I have heard about others loving their Dyson machines. Another military wife gushed over hers when reporting that after 2 months finally her house hold goods the military shipped over after they moved her family finally showed up. It was the one things she had missed more than all her other items. I thought it was a bit silly at the time, oh how wrong I was!

I was determined to put this machine to the test when we got it, I wanted to understand all the love people had for it. While it was incredibly impressive right from the start I couldn’t have guessed how well tested this machine is by the company. I learned that Dyson upright vacuums are subjected to 550 tests over 50,000 hours. During development a Dyson vacuum will be dropped onto a hard floor 5,318 times. It will run 847 miles on a turntable rig; nearly the equivalent of a trip from Chicago to New York City. It is like it made for a house that is hard on vacuums. A house like mine now stands a chance of keeping a vacuum for more than a year!

Havng this machine over the holidays meant it got some extra love, now there is added bunny hair in the carpets too! We vacuumed more than normal for company and just because it was so fast and fun with this machine. I found myself showing it off to whom ever came over. It was such a gift for us. We play hard, so what ever helps us clean has to work hard too! This machine does.

This house is very old and the carpets are too. 2 rooms have carpets unraveling a bit, we have to cut them back. Remember how I mentioned that it is mostly long hair that burns out motors and belts here? This machine has no belt to burn out! I was shocked and thrilled when I went to clean the bottom brush of the machine, it is easy to unattach and get to the brushes. No screws to mess with! I found that one of the kids must have run over one of the unraveling sections of old carpet, as the powerful machine ate it! (We rent and so have little say about the ancient carpets here.) Getting the brush wheel clean was easy and putting it back together was smooth. Very impressed!

We are also impressed with the 5 year parts and labor warranty that this machine comes with. I think it is worth every bit of the $499 price. We spend about half that each year on a new vacuum. This one from everything everyone has told us and our experiences so far, should last much longer!

Dyson Ball Animal easy clean

The Dyson is said to have the strongest suction of any cyclone vacuum and I believe it. No other vacuum has pulled the ancient carpet up like this. This shouldn’t happen to any carpet that isn’t 30 years old! It was very easy to get out!

This is our back hall way, the whole right wall of hidden wooden doors open up into closets. It is a high traffic area as on the right is best bathroom in this old house. The Dyson does a great job even on the very old carpet. Here is an example of baking powder to simulate the baby powder that has blessed this area thanks to little hands!

One of the things that makes me feel better about the carpet situation in this house with this vacuum is that there is a mesh shroud that helps separate large debris, with inner cyclones generating powerful centrifugal forces.  Every angle of each airway is honed to ensure microscopic particles like pollen and mold are separated from the airflow. Mold can be a huge health issue in old houses and carpets harbor so many issues, this vacuum doesn’t kick stuff back up into the air!

Other vacuums would take a lot of work to get this powder up, this vacuum was so quick and didn’t drag it all over the hallway.

One of the first things I noticed about the Dyson is that any place that you could need to do something is red, the buttons, the latches, it is all easy to understand even if you have never used the machine before.

With a baby soon to be crawling I am so thrilled to have this machine cleaning up after the bigger kids and all the pets keeping things clean and healthy for her.

I will be sure to update this post in the future to let everyone know how this vacuum lasts over time. So far, about 3 weeks and nothing but perfection!

I am drooling over one of these. I love how easy it is to move around and how well it picks up. I actually can’t wait for my current vaccum to die so I can justify buying a new one to the Old Man.

The vacuum looks very lightweight. I am looking for a new one. Mine is an old clunker. Dysan seems to be a top brand. I like all the pictures of your’s. Thanks for the details and great review.

  3. My mom has this vacuum and totally loves it. We have a Dyson too … it’s just an older model hehe. Love Dyson! Thank you for sharing your thoughts! Glad you love it as much as we do!
