Field Trip to the National Zoo – Part 6

We ventured out again this week to visit the national zoo! We had gone last week but only managed to see half the zoo. We left late in the day after my husband got home from work. We took our oldest daughters friend with us this time as tomorrow is her birthday and our daughter as a gift wanted her friend to pick out a gift at the gift shop. Our daughter had saved her money and was happy to be able to get her friend a gift.

Something to note, in the summer, all the food stalls and gift shops close at 5pm. The animal buildings close at 6pm and the grounds close at 8pm. We got there at a bit past 5 but managed to get the kids in the gift shop while they still had customers in there. The girls picked out the gift and all was well!

We managed to see 1/3 of the zoo this trip in two hours. While it was over cast and cool, it was muggy and I had a hard time keeping up. We had to stop often for me to rest thanks to my fibromyalgia but the kids where very understanding. There is still things we haven’t seen in the zoo and so we are planning our next trip in September when most kids are back to school and things will be less busy there! Though it should be noted parking was again not an issue, more then a few empty spots in parking lot A and many spots in the other parking areas.

The Zebras were busy entertaining the big cats and the visitors by running in circles over and over and being rambunctious. It was very cute to watch!
