Why yes, these can be a pregnant moms best friend!

If you asked me if I leak I would have to tell you honestly that it does happen. It has happened I think in part because I have had 6 children and soon to be 7! Did you know more people with bladder leakage are in their 20’s than their 80’s? I can’t explain why this is such a big issue so many of us have only that I really feel pregnancy for me is the reason.

Pregnancy Bladder Leak

I am a moderator for about 900 pregnant women online all due at about the same time and over and over there are shocked posts about women leaking. Those of us experienced moms try to offer our sympathy and advice and share our own embarrassing stories. The most recent experience on the forums went something like this:

A beautiful 20 week old pregnant mom was in the kitchen cooking dinner. It had been a great day, she was feeling great, no complications to speak of. Suddenly she sneezed and to her shock the full content of her bladder trailed down her legs to form a puddle on the floor and then she was suddenly a puddle of emotions herself and so embarrassed. Her husband being the great guy he is ushered her off to shower and cleaned up and finished dinner. She reported feeling like she left some of her dignity on the floor of her kitchen. I tried to assure her that such things happen and she is no less a person for it. I then shared my most recent accident!

After 10 hours on the road my family was finally getting close to our hotel room. Being about 20 weeks along myself I was eager to get there and lay down and relax. All of me was in pain. We went over a back country road bump, common for west Virginia and I choked just a bit on water I was sipping from a bottle. The pressure from coughing the water up was all that was needed to make me leak. I sat in horror for a moment wondering how badly I had just leaked on a rather new passenger seat in our rather new and nice minivan. I didn’t know what to do, tell husband or wait and see. I didn’t dare reach down and see if my pants were soaked and if the seat was a mess. Those last 10 minutes to that hotel were horrible with my worry. My husband checked us in while I sat so still waiting for him to come out with the room key so I could take them and rush to the room. I was thankful to be wearing black pants and I know that color helps a lot for such situations as reported by other Moms.

In short, I got out checked the seat, found it dry, and cried as made our way into the room. I got to the bathroom first, a miracle I tell you with 4 children, and after all had their own turn I jumped into a nice warm bath counting my lucky stars I didn’t ruin the seat in the car. I wished then I had Depend Silhouette Active Fit briefs on. Why hadn’t I thought to pack any? I had some for if I get sick because coughing and sneezing and blowing my nose can all cause a leak. I even plan to use them after the baby is born when leaks are so extremely common for me. Not to mention wearing them when jumping on the trampoline and workouts. Why had I forgotten them on the trip?

Depend Silhouette Active Fit briefs have a lower rise+ for an underwear-like look, fit and feel. No one knows you have them on but you. As a category first, Depend SAF is available in black and beige colors. I like the darker color better. As I get older I know this issue for me isn’t going away. The average age of someone with bladder leakage is only 52! More people with bladder leakage are 50 or younger than 60 or older!

Depend is entering year two of Underwareness! Underwareness you might recall is a social movement and charitable cause I posted about last year. It seeks to break down the bladder leakage stigma. Because leakage is a fact of life for so many and it isn’t something many of us talk about so few know how to even get help or what works best.  As part of Underwareness, the Depend brand is:
o Encouraging people to show their support for women with bladder leakage. For every photo and video shared using #Underwareness and featuring Depend products, the Depend brand will donate $1, up to $3 million, through 2016 to fund charities that advance the research and education of bladder leakage.

Don’t forget to visit Underwareness.com to support the cause and request free samples of Depend Silhouette Active Fit.
