Day 164 — Cloth Diapers

Cloth diapers…. why?

– Cost effective
– Better for the environment
(each baby puts 2 tons of diapers in the landfill that will out live them!)
(Disposable diapers contain petroleum products, processing not earth friendly)
– Better for baby!
(No harsh chemicals, less chance of rashes)
– Cute!

While I know there are more reasons, those are the ones that spark my interest in cloth diapers. We have used cloth diapers on our youngest 3 children. With all out moves it is not the most practical thing so they are not always in cloth and during potty learning time they are in pull-ups. Thought I am thinking this is not needed and that I should have moved to cloth trainers. Alas, not perfect.

I have been asked what my favorite kind of diaper is and hands down it is Very Baby AIOs. The above diaper is one I made from that pattern myself. I love the iced giraffe pattern fabric. This diaper made me smile every time I used it. Do your diapers make you or baby smile?

While some people might worry that washing diapers is not sanitary, you should look it up. It is. It is not all that hard to do either. There are whole communities online centered around cloth diapering as well for help. You might want to check out www.diaperswappers.com or mothering.com has a forum as well.
