Cute Halloween Crafts with Young Children

Guest Post by my Sister Ashley R.

I have been seeing all these awesome fall crafting ideas and I think to myself “that looks so cool I wish my little one was old enough to do these himself”. This fall though I decided to make fall decorations with him, and I must say they turned out to be amazing. Our first craft day is pictured below, he made ghost pets using a napkin, marker, googley eyes, glue, tulle, a mason jar and some paper. The first step was cutting the ghost which I did because the last time we let him use scissors… Well lets just say its a good thing we took his Christmas pictures before that incident happened. After cutting the bottom of napkin, i let my son draw the face and glue the eyes. We placed the paper and tulle at the bottom, fluffed the ghost and stuck him inside. After that craft we sat at the table and I told him ghost stories, which he loved!

Our next craft day we made paper bats, spider webs and toilet paper monsters. I will say do not use glitter glue to glue stuff to the toilet paper rolls as it will fall right off. For the monsters just re purpose the toilet paper rolls, scrap paper, some beads and markers and let your child’s imagination take off. For the spider web it only requires two things and is by far the cleanest kids craft we did this season. All you need is pipe cleaners and some string( I used the contents from an old cross stitch set I had that was collecting dust) The spider webs can be difficult for little ones because the pipe cleaners bend if the string is pulled to tight, but they still look fantastic. We added a little spider made from a couple Pom pom balls and a pipe cleaner to make the legs.

Another cute craft we did this Halloween season was ghost feet. Materials needed were black paper and white paint. Next time I do this craft it will for sure be done outside so I dont get tiny foot prints across the kitchen floor. Have your little one step in the white paint and then step on the paper. After it dries draw a ghostly face and find your favorite spot to hang it. We gave one of these to my parents and they loved it!

My last craft of the season was the Halloween pennant banner. Super easy, super fun and looks fantastic. This was a family craft that my wife couldn’t resist being a part of. We used markers, paper, and googly eyes to make monsters, pumpkins, ghosts, candy corn, and spooky Halloween creatures.

Of course theres always room for improvement on some of these and new ideas are great, you may even find a less messy way for some of these but I know one thing is for sure. Children love craft time and need the family bonding time that comes with craft days. With each craft we made sure to teach him about things like the superstition behind black cats, we showed him that some times less is more, and he is so proud of his beautiful crafts this season and is really looking forward to new crafts for Thanksgiving.
