Fertility — Going Old School!

A microscope can help any modern girl keep track of her own fertility as it turns out! Simply put, in the mornings you can take a saliva sample from under your tongue and place it on a clean glass slide. Let the sample dry and then look at it under the microscope. This requires knowing just a bit about how to work the thing of course. What one is looking for is ferning! Ferning can start a few days before ovulation. Full ferning is a sign of ovulation and your fertile time. Knowing this information will help you know if you want to abstain or try for a baby. It can help with natural family planning and tracking your cycles. Knowing you body is very important if you want have any kind of control over having children. I know my crunchy parents who use microscopes to help them make choices for their family size. I think this is a great tool to share with teenage girls as well. Please note that saliva samples should never be taken after eating, or drinking even water. It should go without saying not to take a sample after smoking, though in this day and age one would hope that last warning is not even needed! Take care of yourself!
