Breastfeeding Saves More Babies in Storms

Across the country, the world even, disasters are raging from fires to storms to land hurricanes such as the one that blew through my yard this past week. Millions are without power, some without clean water, and many have babies. I wonder how they are holding up.

It is a reminder to myself and others what a gift breastfeeding really is. No hot clean water needed to feed baby, lift shirt and let baby eat! Simple enough. With formula you need warmed clean water and you need to be able to sanitize bottles and toddlers want milk and milk can not be kept cold when the power is out without some help. A breastfed toddler though has it made, where mom is, clean healthy nutrition is for them as well. No sanitation for that milk needed!

In making preparations for emergencies I think more new mothers should consider that breastfeeding has yet another benefit, in an emergency baby still has nourishment if Mommy is there!

   Just something to think about!

I completely agree. I was very lucky to be able to nurse both of my girls fairly long. My first was weaned at 20 months and my second self weaned at 22 months.
