Breastfeeding is not easy….

I had failed breastfeeding in my own eyes 3 times now.

Hope Pixie — I was 19 and dumb. I had no support and when my own mother saw me crying every time I nursed her she told me to give her formula. I only managed 6 weeks.

Teddy Bear Boy — It was horrible from day one and never got better. His latch was all wrong and no help seemed to fix it. I tried everything I could, many herbs and pumping and still he was failing to thrive. I made it 8 hard tearful months of breastfeeding.

Storm Baby — I was determined to not fail again. Thanks to support, though she too failed to thrive at one point, we made it a year. We tried so so much and it was so hard.

So here sit with my darling sweet Dragonfly baby. She is 5 weeks and until today I thought she too was going to fail to thrive. My damnable house scale said she had not gained this weeks and combined with other reasons I was a wreck of worry. So to the Dr she went to find out if we needed more hands on help from the LC and others I count on for breastfeeding advice.

I was so wrong. My baby is thriving. She is right on track for weight and grown more in length than is even average.

5 weeks and she is 9 lbs 10oz (7.6 at birth) and now 22.5 inches (19 at birth)

We are truly very lucky and blessed to have such great support. It is not easy and baby could still fail to thrive in a few months like her siblings but I have hope.
