Beach Fun At Colt State Park

On our trip north to see family we went to Colt State Park in RI to enjoy the water. With the coasts of MA having a lot of sharks and a recient attack we thought it best to leave those waters to the seals and great whites this summer.

One of the things I love about crunchy parenting is our passion for getting outside and into nature. I love reading other crunchy parenting blogs as they often inspire my family to do just that. Not to mention it tends to be good for the pocket book and the enviornment as well as we insist on trying to leave an area in better shape than we found it.

Colt State Park though makes this very hard. Everything is so clean and so well taken care of. With the exception of the round slide at the park that has broken plastic at the end of it. It needs to be fixed ASAP as it hurt a little toddler while we played there shortly after I showed the issue to my own children and they desided to stay clear of that one slide.

Everything else was just so well cared for and clearly loved. I wish I had taken more photos to share with you. The beach is rocky, has many shells, and it is a good idea to bring swim shoes if your going to swim here. It can be sharp and it is just not fun to walk on. My husband and I took turns tossing a pair of comfy sandles to one another when we had to cross the shell area. My husband enjoyed swimming with that particular pair of sandles on. I will share more about them another post though. Note to self I need another pair!

The beach does have a life guard but I am not sure the hours, we went late in the day both times and the chairs where empty a few minutes after ariving. The beach is not very long and though both visits where on hot weekend days, the beach was not very busy. The water was not as clear as I would have liked and had a lot os seaweed  in it. I joked that it provided a seaweed wrap that some people pay a lot of money for. We all still had a great time and I have to say my fibromyalgia was helped by floating in the water more than I ever expected it to be. Better than the medications my Drs try even. I wish we lived close to that beach, or any beach at this point really. There was no charge for parking and it was not hard to find a spot. We brought our own chairs as none are provided on the beach. They do provide a public bathroom and outdoor showers though to wash the salt water off! You can learn a lot more about this state park and the beach with a quick search for it. It is worth the stop if your in that area! We didn’t see any sharks, did see a few tiny cute fish though!
