Aug 29th — Home Sweet Homeschool

It is exciting to be starting another homeschooling year, this time with a 6th grader, an official kinder, and a pre-k, along with the baby of course! As exciting as it is though, it is also a bit intimidating and I must admit I am behind in planning. We had planned for the three olders to spend some vacation time up north with Meme and Pepe and great Meme but alas because of some things going on up there we have to put that off till the end of the month. I was going to plan during that time, collect supplies and get ready. Last minute however things changed and so we had to just dive in! I feel like an unsteady newbie though, home I do not sink!

You might be wondering what we will be using, this is always a question I have for our homeschooling friends as I like to know what works for them and what doesn’t.

For Kinder we are using Oak Meadow. We are also still going to be on abcmouse.com along with many many books to help me such as circle time books and using block crayons and many waldorf books. Of course we have our ever growing collection of books the kids love. (Thank you paperbackswap.com!)

For 6th grade we are trying something new, we are going to do The Prairie Primer for the first half of the year and then jump into Oak Meadow 6th for the second, though we will be using time4learning.com for math the whole year. Hope Pixie daughter is really excited about all the things she has added to the “to learn” list for the year.

So those are the basics for us.

Speaking of basics… Waldorf kinders normally make bread each day, so in that spirit Mr Handsome got to work making dough. I decided this would be done once a week, Monday mornings using the 5 minute a day artisan bread recipe. It will let us make simple yummy bread and dough snakes to make into the weekly letters. The below photo is of him and his dough. One really needs a big container as this dough really does double in 2 hours!

Wish us Luck! We hope school is going well for all of our friends no matter what kind of schooling it is. Remember, do what works for your family!
