When is a child ready for riding lessons?

It might be sooner than you think? Many toddlers get on horses and start young. While I know this as I have seen it I just wasn’t sure my little girl was ready for lessons. We just moved to GA and lessons kind of fell in my lap. I am so glad we jumped on them as it is such a great fit. The instructor said my little 6 year old is her faster learner and my Daughter loves the horse named Morgan, a rescue horse that is sweet and great for lessons with small children.

So age really isn’t the factor some think it is for riding lessons. Some say a child needs to be able to follow directions but really special needs children have therapies with horses and some can not even talk never mind follow directions. If you think your child might want to ride, seek out lessons, now is the time!

         But are lessons expensive?

Prices can very much vary from area to area and even within the same stable. We for lucky here and the lesson are only $25 an hour and there is even a discount for siblings. Call around and try out a few lessons before committing. The connection between your child and the horse and the horse and the instructor and the instructor and the child are all very important. While cheap lessons are great be sure the animal is being taken good care of, that the environment is safe, and that safety is a priority.

My 6 year old loves riding!

For my daughter I don’t think this will be a career for her but I could be wrong. She is a special little girl who gets along better with most animals than she does people. I have said it before and I will say it again, she is amazing. Unlike so many children who have pets, my 6 year old “Storm Baby” as we call her here on the blog actually plays with her pets, all the time. She cares for them and connects with them and it is beautiful to behold. I think riding lessons are perfect for her! Wish us luck!

Will riding lessons end up meaning we need to buy a horse? That is a question for another day!

I wish that my kids could learn how to ride horses.
