4 Ways Animals Can Help You Manage the Winter Blahs

The winter season is difficult for many people.  The days are shorter, and often the sun is hidden by cloudy skies.  When the snow and ice come, getting out can be difficult.

If you suffer from seasonal sadness, you are not alone.  Many people suffer from the winter blahs, but there are ways that can help you minimize your feelings of seasonal depression.  Luckily for animal lovers, many strategies can include your favorite pet.

Consider some of these activities:

1.  Take a walk.  Getting outside is one of the best ways to shake off the blahs.  Why not take a long walk with your dog?  He’ll love to get out and frolic in the snow, and you may be able to get a good dose of sunshine as well as enjoy your dog’s antics and his companionship.

2.  Get a bird feeder.  Something as simple as putting bird feeders in front of your living room window can bring you enjoyment.   Watching the different types of birds and learning to identify them can occupy your time.  Plus, in the blah winter landscape, it is nice to see the different flashes of color from each bird.

3.  Groom and pet your animal.  Brushing and petting your animal, whether you have a cat or a dog, can be a relaxing activity, and your pet will enjoy the extra attention.  There is something soothing about caring for your animal, and both you and your pet will benefit.

4.  Cuddle up with a good book.  The winter season is often a quieter season, so why not catch up on your reading?  Cuddle up on the couch with a good book and chances are that your favorite feline or canine will cuddle up next to you, providing you extra warmth.

The winter season can be difficult because many people suffer from the winter blahs.  If you are an animal lover, use some of these strategies to help make the dreary winter season pass more quickly.
