4 Things you can do to make your home inviting to guests

Are you getting ready to invite some guests into your home for the first time? Make sure to do these four things to ensure that your guests will have a great time!

  1. Create a good first impression – Aside from focusing on the interior of the home, you should also make the front door and the entryway look just as inviting. Whenever we meet people for the first time, we try to make a good first impression through our clothes, our manner of speaking, etc. We want to do the same thing with our homes, right? An easy way to do this is to add some plants or pots of flowers beside your front door or entryway. You can also add a welcoming mat with a unique message for your guests.

  1. Clear the clutter – If there is one thing that can make a guest feel uncomfortable, it would have to be clutter. It is not appealing to look at and will not leave a good impression with your guests. A clean space will make your guests feel welcome. You do not have to hide all your things in one room and bring it out when the guests leave. What you need to do is place strategic storage all over the house. If you have children, you should boxes or baskets for their toys. You don’t have to keep everything in storage. it would be nice to add personal touches all over the house, memorable pictures, souvenirs from your trips, your favorite books, etc. These are also great conversation starters and will make your guests want to explore your house and know more about you.

  1. Add more natural light – If your guests are coming in the morning, you would want to have more natural light instead of harsh, and too bright lighting. It’s better to let the sun in as its warm colors are more inviting. Harsh lighting and staying in a room with no windows can also feel stifled, and your guests will want to get out of the room. If your guests will come at night, don’t worry, there are still many ways you can create an ambiance with lighting. Just make sure to use soft lights, and you can even add some lit candles all over the house to make a more relaxed ambiance.

  1. Create a whole atmosphere that spells home – To make your guests feel at home, you have to create a whole homey atmosphere. Invest in furniture that is comfortable and not those modern ones that you will be too afraid to sit on. Add some throw rugs and carpets that people would want to sink onto. Make sure to make temperature just right. You can invest in a smart thermostat such as the ones listed on Cozy Down Home. Even the smell of your home can be inviting! Light some candles, add fresh flowers or bring out that freshly baked apple pie so that your guests can enjoy the feeling of home.
