Your bedroom should be a place of rest and relaxation, but with the stresses and busy activities of life, it’s easy to just toss your belongings on the floor, and collapse into bed after a long week, forgetting about decorating your room to be a unique and inviting space.  It should be comfortable and somewhere that you go to rejuvenate yourself, so making sure that it is kept clean and uncluttered is key. Including oak furniture items or hiding wires behind your computer desk can quickly tidy up a room.

Use your personality when it comes to decorating your bedroom – if your room doesn’t fit you as a person, it will be harder to relax and unwind in.  Finding ways that incorporate who you are into the design of your room will help make it a more comfortable place to be.  We’ve compiled three things that can make your bedroom the calming sanctuary that it should be!

Tip 1 – TV Beds

Non-bulky furniture is important. Make your space as uncluttered as possible, so you’re free to move about – especially if your room is small to begin with! Want to save space but still have a comfortable bed?  Buy a TV bed. The TV is attached to the foot of the bed, so you can relax in bed with a movie or your favourite TV show at the end of a lengthy workday.  If you are someone that finds solace in relaxing in front of the TV at night, then a TV bed might be just what you need. They are relatively affordable, come in a variety of styles and colours, and will be a distinctive feature in your bedroom.

Tip 2 – Furniture colour

Lighting and furniture colours are important! In addition to a ceiling light, get an extra reading light that is near your bed so you can lie in bed and read a book or magazine. Or, switch out your ceiling light bulb to a warm-spectrum light, which can make the space more inviting. Colour choice is also key.  If your room is small, try not to pick super dark wall colours that can make the space feel smaller or closed in.  Instead, find lighter colours that can make the room feel more spacious and bright.  Neutral wall colours are always good choices, but if you like lavender, sunny pastel yellows, or even cheerful greens, you can easily find accents, bedding, throw pillows, or artwork that can tie everything together in a way that suits your tastes and sense of style.  Your room will feel cheerful in no time!

Tip 3 – Textures

Add texture, especially textures that are comfortable to you.  For example: in the winter, find a thick, furry throw blanket to snuggle up with while you’re in bed. There are a lot of different styles of throw blankets that can function practically as well as aesthetically.  Use it to keep warm at night and when you’re not using it, fold it and keep it on the end of your bed as a way to tie in the colours in the rest of your room.  Another example: find woven wool rugs, chenille bed spreads, embroidered lace curtains, or aspen oak nightstands or book shelves that add a classic sense of style to the space.

Don’t let your bedroom be boring! If your room is dull, there are many ways to update and freshen up the living space – even if you have a small budget.  It doesn’t take much to spruce up your room.  Even the smallest of details, can add a special touch to your room, making it as unique as you are. All you need is a little inspiration!

I love my bedroom because it is a cozy room. We have a pillow topper on our mattress that makes it softer.
