You wouldn’t have been able to say no to this Kitten either!

Kittens Make Things Better Right?

For a while now I have thought about getting a kitten. Our lives are hurting from cancer in the family, and chaos around the home situation and so many things hard on the heart. I wanted something tiny to cuddle and cry with to be honest. I would often cry with my baby but now she ends up crying too not so very impresses with Mamas tears and who can blame her. She is a vibrant and happy 9 month old baby who wants to play and explore. A kitten I imagined would be like my old cat, happy to cuddle and not mind the salty tears. My old beloved cat passed a few months ago. Truly this isn’t the time for a kitten but as I keep hearing, there never seems to be the perfect time for much of anything in life. So live now I thought. I hunted for a kitten of my own for a few months, the whole area seemed to be vacant of kittens needing home beyond a single large rescue in the area that wouldn’t let me adopt I learned because I wouldn’t strictly make kitty stay inside all the time. My last kitty was a farm cat and lived to a very old age and moved with us all around the county! My daughters kitty, a 2 year old black fixed male loves to come out to the garden with us, keeps the chickens on their toes, and enjoys the grass and fresh air.

I had it in my head I wanted a white kitten of some kind. But as I couldn’t much find any kittens I came to have a more open mind. Still I wanted something white, had an eclectic name picked out and all. Nothing went as planned though. Does it ever?

How I finally got my kitten!

A local farmer said he barn kittens, 9 colors, but had no photos. After a few failed attempts to get a hold of the man he gave us an address and was home at a good time for us to come by. He hunted his farm and pulled out a single screaming angry ball of dark fur. He said he has seen her brother but he could not then be located. I tried to take the hissing pissed off little ball of fluff from the man but she was determined to bite and claw what came near her. My husband took her from the man who was holding on her by her back. My husband was quickly bitten, HARD. She sank 4 razor sharp teeth into him. There was blood. My husband didn’t freak, being the soldier he is, he remained calm. I sought the brother, thinking he might be a more white color, and less a wild animal.

The farmer went on to tell us there had been many kittens but he had found them lacking their heads….. a fox or some kind of animal got to him he said. He also said it was common there…. he mentioned that people shouldn’t feed barn cats or they will not kill mice so if we wanted a mouser, we shouldn’t feed what ever kitten we get, if we decide to get one. He never fed her mother or the other cats on the property, ever. After a few minutes it seemed clear that brother kitten wasn’t going to be found. I noticed the black colored ball of fur crawling on my husband then, quiet, more peaceful, even letting him pet her. Gone were the angry claws and teeth.

Looking at my husband I could tell, he wasn’t going to put the kitten down, he wasn’t going to let her loose her head. She was coming home. So the husband that was all together reluctant to get me a kitten at all right now during all the chaos of our lives basically insisted we bring the little beasty who bit him very hard home.

In the car he said “She will keep her head.” and that was that.

Kitties are the best. We had a mama and two sons at our old farm but decided to leave them because we were worried about their safety at our new house. I miss those cuties! Fear not. My former neighbor is bringing us a kitten.
