This Week In Our Back Yard Chicken Coop…..
This is one of our two lavender Amerucauna chicks about 8 weeks old. Hope they are both not Roos! We have enough of those!
It has been so very wet and muddy as of late and the chicks show it. This chick though looks about right for the age and breed actually! It is an ugly phase of a silkie chick! The kids named her Pumpkin!
This is Princess! She is our first Sizzle chick. It is a cross breed in development and part of a homeschool science project working on genetics!
This little one is a white silkie. I know you can’t tell in this photo but she has blue ears! Very messy little feet feathers! If the weather clears up I think the chicks are getting a bath!
This is our Barnevelder Rooster chick! His name is Darling!
OH NO!
The black and white feathers on the right are the wing feathers of our only tripped chicken. She is a Barred Rock and the kids call her pigeon. The feather on left the photo is much bigger and not from any of our birds. Identifying it we have learned it belongs to a horned owl…. this is rather a bad thing for our chickens as the feather was found close to our chicken coop and run. We free range the chickens in an open top area that moves around the 2 acres we have here. Meaning a large bird could make a meal of our chickens if it really wanted to. I am glad that we at least lock our birds up at night to keep them safe from the large owl we now know is around! I love owls but this one needs to get dinner some place else!
Cute chicks! My sister has lots of different chickens at her house!
